Our client, a global leading int the insurance industry, is looking to appoint a Contracts Manager to be based in Maputo.

Job Purpose 

The Contracts Manager will be responsible for overseeing, managing, and executing all contractual obligations related to projects under the company. This role involves ensuring compliance with contractual terms, negotiating terms with clients and stakeholders, and managing risks associated with contracts, while supporting the successful delivery of projects in accordance with the agreed budget, schedule, and the company policies. 


The ideal candidate should have strong contracts management skills and experience; leadership and team management coupled with excellent communication skills.

ACTIVITIES

•    Lead and oversee all assigned contracts from pre-award to close-out, ensuring that work is delivered in accordance with contractual obligations, service level agreements, approved scope, and client expectations.


•    Coordinate and direct cross-functional project teams to ensure activities are properly planned, resourced, executed, and monitored so that contractual deliverables are achieved on time and to the required standard.


•    Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and key stakeholders, providing regular reports, progress updates, issue resolution, and professional communication to maintain strong working relationships.


•    Monitor contract and project performance against agreed timelines, budgets, milestones, and quality requirements, and implement corrective actions were performance deviates from expectations.


•    Support procurement and subcontractors’ management through tendering and procurement activities, drafting, reviewing, negotiating subcontract agreements, and monitoring subcontractor contractual compliance and performance.


•    Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and internal teams to support collaboration, service continuity, and efficient contract execution.


•    Identify contractual, commercial, operational, and compliance risks early and develop practical mitigation strategies to minimize exposure, protect company interests, and support successful project delivery.


•    Provide expert guidance and support to project teams and management on contract interpretation, obligations, variations, claims, dispute prevention, and general contractual matters.


•    Maintain complete, accurate, and up-to-date contract records, correspondence, change orders, claims documentation, and support files to ensure audit readiness and strong document control.


•    Attend and lead regular internal and external meetings to review contract status, address performance issues, track action items, and ensure alignment of priorities and deliverables.


•    Manage variation orders, contractual claims, and change management processes by assessing commercial impact, preparing supporting documentation, and facilitating timely review, negotiation, and approval.


•    Support resource planning and operational optimization by reviewing workload, contract priorities, and project requirements to improve efficiency, cost control, and overall project performance.

QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCED REQUIRED  


•        College/ University Education: Degree in Civil Engineering (Preferable) or another Relevant degree.


•    Experience in the oil and Gas sector (preferable)


•    Proven experience (8-10 years) as a Contract Manager or similar role, preferably in construction or project-based industries.


•    Professional certification: PMP, CIPS or equivalent is desirable.


•    Strong understanding of contract law and compliance regulations.


•    Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills.


•    Legal knowledge of contracts is a preference 


•    Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.


•    Proficient in contract management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
