Civil Lead III (Geotechnical Engineer)

Position Overview

Our team is currently looking for a

Geotechnical Engineer to lead critical offshore geotechnical initiatives for one of our clients, a major player in the energy sector. This job role specifically requires a Geotechnical Engineer with a strong background in managing geotechnical and geophysical surveys. The work will involve providing fit-for-purpose recommendations for offshore geotechnical surveys, design criteria, and execution plans, primarily focused on leading multi-functional teams in survey execution. This position is based at the ExxonMobil Houston Campus, though partial work-from-home arrangements are open for discussion. A willingness to travel internationally is strongly preferred.

 

Responsibilities & Essential Duties

 

  • Lead Offshore Geotechnical Surveys: Direct and manage multi-functional teams in the planning, execution, and oversight of offshore geotechnical and geophysical survey programs.

  • Develop Project Recommendations: Provide expert, fit-for-purpose recommendations for offshore geotechnical surveys, design criteria, and execution plans to support various projects.

  • Manage Project Lifecycle: Participate actively in the technical bid evaluation and vendor selection process. This includes developing detailed work scopes, evaluating project costs, managing schedules, and overseeing the day-to-day execution of survey programs.

  • Conduct Risk Assessments: Actively participate in the risk assessment process to identify and mitigate potential geotechnical hazards.

  • Perform Geotechnical Engineering Assessments (Preferred): Conduct in-house geotechnical engineering assessments to support offshore facilities. This includes analyses related to jack-up leg penetration, pile design and installation, and pipeline and riser soil interaction.

  • Interacts with other disciplines and structural engineering consultants to allow effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should possess or acquire general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields to function on multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Develops and reviews requirements documents, methodology documents, design reports, and studies.

  • Possesses strong written and oral communication skills and routinely interacts with contractors and/or regulatory bodies.

  • Leads the oversight of suppliers and reviews technical information (i.e., drawings, reports, specifications, calculations, etc.) to ensure it aligns with statements of work and requirements documents.

  • Provides mentorship to more junior team members and may be asked to take the lead in technical issues as needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Education: A minimum of a BS degree in Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited school is required.

  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience practicing Geotechnical Engineering is required, including significant experience managing geotechnical/geophysical surveys.

  • Required experience in the following areas:

    • Managing geotechnical and geophysical surveys.

    • Developing fit-for-purpose recommendations and execution plans for offshore geotechnical surveys.

    • Participating in technical bid evaluation, work scope development, and project cost/schedule management.

    • Participating in risk assessment processes.

  • Preferred experience in:

    • Leading offshore Geophysical and Geotechnical surveys.

    • Performing own geotechnical engineering assessments in support of offshore facilities (including jack-up leg penetration, pile design and installation, and pipeline and risers soil interface).

  • Industry Requirements: Willingness to travel internationally is strongly preferred.

  • Work Location: Base expectation is that the individual will work at the ExxonMobil Houston Campus, though partial work-from-home arrangements are open for discussion.
