Our client is a provider of waste management is looking to appoint a successful a General Manager – Facilities (Water Treatment) to based in Pemba.

JOB SUMMARY:    

This person will oversee the strategic, operational, and financial management of water treatment facilities to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of water treatment services. This role is responsible for leading multidisciplinary teams, optimizing facility performance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering continuous improvement in operations and sustainability.

Responsibilities:

•    Provide leadership, direction, and oversight of all water treatment facilities operations.

•    Develop and implement operational strategies to ensure optimal performance of water treatment systems, including potable water, wastewater, and process water facilities.

•    Oversee maintenance programs, infrastructure upgrades, and capital improvement projects.

•    Ensure compliance with all local, regional, and international environmental and water quality regulations.

•    Manage budgets, forecasts, and financial performance for the water treatment facilities.

•    Develop and monitor KPIs for safety, operational efficiency, sustainability, and quality assurance.

•    Foster a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.

•    Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to implement projects on time and within budget.

•    Serve as the point of contact for regulatory bodies, clients, and community stakeholders.

•    Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of managers, engineers, operators, and support staff.

 

Qualifications:

•    Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

•    Minimum of 10–15 years of progressive leadership experience in water treatment facility management or similar industrial plant operations.

•    In-depth knowledge of water treatment technologies, systems (e.g., RO, UV, DAF, biological treatment), and regulatory frameworks.

•    Proven experience managing large teams and complex facilities.

•    Strong financial and project management acumen.

•    Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

•    Certification or licensing (e.g., Professional Engineer, Water Treatment Operator Certification) is an advantage.
