Role: Process Safety Advisor
Our client is looking for a champion and leader of process safety excellence across our operations, embedding a strong safety culture through targeted training, field engagement, structured risk analysis, and leadership coaching. A dynamic communicator with deep a process safety technical knowledge.
Qualification & Experience
Engineering degree in Chemical, Process, Mechanical, or Process Safety Engineering (or equivalent)
10+ years of relevant industry experience in process safety field
Demonstrated facilitation experience with
HAZOPand other PHA methods; strong understanding of safeguards and scenario development.
Hands-on experience developing
Bowtiemodels and applying barrier thinking to prevent/mitigate major accident events.
Solid working knowledge of
risk assessment methodologies(risk matrices, consequence/likelihood, LOPA concepts).
Strong documentation skills; able to communicate technical risk to operators, engineers, and leadership.
- Comfortable working in the field with Operations/Maintenance and driving action-item closure.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and facilitate
Process Hazard Analyses (PHA)including
HAZOP(and/or What-If/Checklist, LOPA as needed); document outcomes and drive closure of actions.
Build and maintain
Bowtie analysesfor high-risk scenarios (Top Events, Threats, Preventive Controls, Mitigative Controls, Escalation Factors, Recovery Measures) and keep them aligned to site barrier standards.
Execute formal
risk assessments(qualitative and semi-quantitative), define risk ranking/criteria, and ensure consistent application across units/projects.
Translate PHA/Bowtie outputs into actionable
barrier managementand
risk reduction plans(engineering, procedural, training, and verification).
Track PHA/HAZOP recommendations to closure, verify effectiveness, and report progress to leadership.
Support/lead
MOCreviews and ensure hazards/controls are evaluated before changes are implemented.
Participate in or lead
incident investigations(RCA) and ensure learnings feed back into PHA/Bowtie updates.
Ensure PSM alignment across key elements (procedures, training, mechanical integrity, operating discipline, PSSR, emergency response interfaces).
- Develop and maintain risk documentation, dashboards, and audit-ready records.
Training & Development
Design and deliver training materials for both in-person sessions and computer-based training (CBT) platforms
Facilitate process safety training for Operations personnel across all shifts, including field and control room teams
Conduct tailored training for Maintenance teams, focusing on hazard scenarios and safeguard awareness
Provide ongoing training and communication support for Engineering and Project teams
Support and train Critical Safeguard (CSG) owners to ensure clarity on roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations
Develop and deliver leadership-focused training modules to enhance process safety ownership at all levels
- Facilitate leadership workshops and one-on-one coaching to build confidence in leading safety conversations and initiatives
Risk Management & Technical Safety
Perform risk screening for new and modified processes, projects, and operational changes
Lead or support structured risk assessments (e.g., Scenario Based, What-If, Checklist, LOPA, Bowtie) to identify hazards and evaluate safeguards
Actively participate in HAZOP studies, providing technical insight and ensuring alignment with process safety standards
- Collaborate with Engineering and Projects to ensure risk mitigation strategies are integrated into design and execution
Field Engagement & Communication
Develop and deploy field-facing materials (e.g., posters, bowtie visualizations, digital signage, branded safety collateral) to reinforce hazard scenario awareness
Ensure visibility and alignment of process safety messaging with existing PSMS and field initiatives
- Lead field walks and coaching sessions with site leadership to promote active safety engagement and hazard recognition
