Our client, a global leading int the insurance industry, is looking to appoint a Senior Project Manager to be based in Afungi.

Job Purpose 

The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing, managing, and executing all contractual obligations related to projects under the company.

This role involves ensuring compliance with contractual terms, negotiating terms with stakeholders, and managing risk associated with contracts. The ideal candidate should have strong project management skills and experience; leadership and team management coupled with excellent communication skills.

ACTIVITIES

Project & Construction Management

•    Plan, direct, and oversee construction works and associate projects from mobilization through to handover and close-out.

•    Develop and maintain integrated project schedules, resourcing plans, and progress baselines, taking corrective action where performance deviates from plan.

•    Coordinate and lead multidisciplinary project teams, subcontractors, and site personnel to ensure works are executed safely and efficiently.

•    Manage project budgets and cost forecasts, identifying variances early and implementing corrective measures.

•    Oversee site mobilization/demobilization, logistics, and interfaces between concurrent work packages.

•    Drive HSE culture and compliance on site, ensuring construction activities meet health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Contractual Compliance & Risk Management

•    Ensure all project activities adhere to contractual terms, conditions, and service level agreements (SLAs).

•    Monitor contract performance against scope, programme, and budget, flagging deviations and ensuring timely remediation.

•    Manage variation orders, claims, and contractual correspondence, ensuring positions are well substantiated and properly recorded.

•    Identify contractual and commercial risks proactively, developing and implementing mitigation strategies.

•    Maintain accurate and audit-ready contract files, registers, and supporting documentation.

•    Provide guidance to project teams and management on contractual matters, interpretation of terms, and risk exposure.

Quality Assurance & Control

•    Ensure construction works are executed in accordance with approved specifications, drawings, and quality standards.

•    Oversee implementation of the project Quality Management Plan, including inspections, testing, and non-conformance management.

•    Work with QA/QC teams to close out non-conformances and ensure corrective actions are tracked to completion.

•    Support internal and client audits, ensuring documentation and processes withstand scrutiny.

Client & Stakeholder Management

•    Act as the primary point of contact for the client on day-to-day project matters at Afungi.

•    Lead negotiations with the client on contractual, commercial, and technical matters, protecting the company's position while maintaining a constructive relationship.

•    Prepare and present regular progress reports, dashboards, and updates to the client and internal stakeholders.

•    Chair and participate in progress, technical, and contractual review meetings, ensuring actions are tracked and closed out.

•    Build and sustain trusted working relationships with the client, subcontractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.

Team Leadership & Resource Management

•    Lead, mentor, and manage the performance of project staff, fostering accountability and professional development.

•    Allocate and optimize resources (labour, equipment, materials) across active work fronts.

•    Support recruitment, onboarding, and capability-building of project and site personnel as required.

Reporting, Documentation & Governance

•    Maintain accurate records of contracts, correspondence, approvals, and project documentation for audit and governance purposes.

•    Provide regular status updates to executive management on project, contractual, and commercial performance.

•    Ensure lessons learned, risks, and best practices are captured and fed back into future project planning.

QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCED REQUIRED  

•        College/ University Education: Degree in Civil Engineering (Preferable) or another Relevant degree.

•    Experience in the Oil and Gas sector (preferably)

•    Proven experience (8-10 years) as a Senior Project Manager or similar role, preferably in construction or project-based industries.

•    Strong understanding of contract law and compliance regulations.

•    Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills.

•    Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

•    Proficient in contract management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

•    Experience in project management methodologies.

•    Knowledge of procurement processes and supplier management.

•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

•    Proficient in English and Portuguese
