The specialist position is responsible for promoting the core responsibilities of safety, health, and environmental requirements (SHE) through being a role model, including the safety rules and standards. The position also has the responsibility of improving mechanical reliability through failure analysis, identifying upgrade and improvement opportunities, ensuring adequate quality control, ensuring consistent and accurate equipment record keeping, spare parts management, and providing technical troubleshooting assistance.
The Specialist receives administrative work guidance through the Maintenance organization. However, functional expertise and individual craft knowledge are gained through networking with the local Engineering organization.
• Provides technical assistance and support on analyzer repairs / upgrades as needed.
• Assists execution and operations as needed with troubleshooting along with analyzer technicians. It is not intended that the specialist is the “first-call” or alleviate base unit maintenance from performing their basic troubleshooting duties.
• Provides field technical support where needed to ensure quality repairs. It is not the expectation to V&V all repairs in the field
• Works with maintenance to support technicians on repair recommendations and scope, and inputs to the job pack as needed
• Collaborate with Analyzer Engineer for field support, activities, repairs, etc.
• Responsible for parts management
• Provides oversight to planner on parts list (BOM) required for overhauls or when necessary for larger jobs
• Primary interface with storehouse to resolve spare part issues and improve storehouse performance
• Conducts annual parts verification PM for critical parts
• Leads the section dead and dormant reviews as required
• Responsible for project and T/A support
• Gathers site information for engineering scope
• Support planning, procurement, and project execution as needed
• Provide technical expertise for maintenance related project activities and reviews as needed.
• Provide inspection support to project tech for FATs and support SAT loop checks as necessary
• Provide input for T/A activities
• Supports root cause failure analysis on all failures
• Performs RCFA on lower-level failures and reviews RCFA and associated recommendations with engineering and affected FLSs.
• Along with engineering, provides associated recommendations to improve performance
• Follows up on recommendations to ensure they are completed
• Documents RCFA information in the SAP history record (This does not remove the technician’s responsibility of entering history into our systems)
• Supports oversight of the equipment PM’s identifying additions, deletions, or interval modifications
• Supports reliability/analyzer/measurement engineering as needed for bad actor updates and annual plan development
• Creates and/or updates specific maintenance procedures as needed with engineering/execution engagement
• Be actively involved in bad actor resolution, etc.
• Participates in RCM’s, RBWS’s, ES’s, etc.
• Site Objectives and Plans and Performance Improvements
• Should monitor, steward, and drive fleet health performance improvement in area of responsibility
• Contribute to long range improvement plans based on site experience, knowledge, and history
• Provide support to field implementation as needed
• Support roll-out initiatives and programs for new technologies
• Assists in the site implementation of learnings from the network and other sites as well as sharing learnings with the networks
• Mentors, trains, and evaluates analyzer techs to foster functional excellence
• Provides input on craft training plans for techs
• Identifies training opportunities and works with the Craft organization to address training needs
• Provides day-to-day mentorship and feedback on tech performance and is a role model for adherence to safety and quality standards
• Leads training courses/lunch and learns for technicians
• Supports technicians with knowledge for break-in events and unplanned shift coverage during startups for general purpose analyzers. Specialists should not be the first point of contact in troubleshooting
• Serves as the main interface from mechanical to engineering for questions around functional expertise
• Progresses/initiates some MOCs independently (simple replacements of analyzers that don’t meet in-kind, etc.)
• Support training development for Operations on new equipment as needed
