Field Cost Engineer – Edmonton, AB Canada
Position Summary:
The Field Cost Engineer is responsible for the gathering, validation, analysis and reporting of pertinent cost information throughout the duration of the project.
Apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out cost engineering tasks supporting the management of the project. The Field Cost Engineer is closely involved and facilitates the preparation of the project cost forecasting and must be able to provide accurate and timely status of the project cost. The Field Cost Engineer is responsible for ensuring the consistency and accuracy of the reporting of several Cost Engineers and that compliance guidelines are being strictly adhered to. The role is based at the construction site.
Qualifications:
- Team leadership experience on a mega project
- Experience developing and maintaining project dashboards and reports
- Proficient in SAP and Omega 365 (PIMS)
- Knowledge of Acumen Fuse or similar risk management software
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing project requirements and deadlines
- Experience managing costs of mega projects in the construction phase
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Follows AP’s established standard processes, procedures and formats required for corporate reporting and deliverables
- Leads and provides direction to additional cost engineer project resources
- An active member of the PC Team collaborating and supporting project specific strategies and deliverables
- Manages the control budget
- Assists the PCM to develop and implement strategies for workload among the cost staff
- Participates in establishing the initial budgets and breakdown structures
- Responsible for the project set-up activities related to the cost and earned value management
- Develops the breakdown structures to accommodate the segregation and reporting for the different components of the project. Works with the Field Planning Engineer to ensure alignment between P6 and Cost structures
- Prepares AP’s systems and tools (i.e., Omega 365, SAP) and loads pertinent baseline budget information
- Initiates and maintains currency hedges with Treasury
- Participates in the integration of the project estimate and schedule to provide planned and forecast quantities developing system standard and custom graphical and tabular reports
- Participates in the project Risk Analysis
- Responsible for the monitoring, updating, and reporting of the project TIC reporting
- Prepares and maintains standard corporate required cost and earned value reports
- Prepares and maintains project required reports and dashboards
- Responsible for the Change Management Log, processing change requests and evaluating the impact of the changes
- Responsible for the integration of project changes in the current budget and forecast
- Monitors and compares expenditures against original and current budgets, prepares trend analysis to identify areas of risk
- Collects, validates, and integrates cost and earned value information from vendors and contractors
- Collects, validates, and integrates procurement cost information
- May collect historical engineering, procurement and construction data for reporting, metrics, and performance analysis
- Assists in developing alternatives to accommodate changes and priorities
- Attends project meetings and participates by providing the applicable reports
- Facilitates meetings with key project team members, vendors, and contractors to address and update the project cost forecast
- Collects Contractor data, validates, and aggregates that data into overall project reporting
- Assists the PCM with coordination, monitoring, reporting and oversight of the field and EDC cost engineering activities
- Provides proactive and accurate cost management assessments to assist the project management team
Minimum Hiring Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Economics, Business Administration, or Accounting preferred
- Minimum of 15 years of experience as a Cost Engineer, with a proven track record of managing cost for large-scale projects
Other:
- Schedule: Standard, Mon-Fri (40hrs/week)
- Contract: 12 months, with high potential to extend
- Per Diem: Local candidates preferred
- Worksite: Edmonton, AB Canada
- Pay Rate: $95-100/hr.
